On Campus Secure Connections
Notice: Due to known vulnerabilities Cisco VPN clients older than version 4.8.01.0300 will no longer be allowed to connect to the campus vpn service. ACNS encourages the use of the Secure Gateway (http://secure.colostate.edu) as a means to connect to the campus network. If a user still prefers to use a vpn tunnel they will need to upgrade to a more secure client. Network connection options include the following:
Wireless
The best and easiest way for campus users to connect to the CSU network is to use the Easy Access 'csu-net' wireless connection. All traffic over this connection is encrypted, eliminating the need to use either the Secure Gateway or the Cisco vpn. You can connect to 'csu-net' from almost anywhere on campus. Instructions for setting up this connection can be found here http://www.acns.colostate.edu/?page=wireless_80211i. Always prefer 'csu-net' for secure connections and faster speeds. The 'csu' wireless network is also available but will require either the Secure Gateway or Cisco vpn to encrypt user traffic.
SSL Gateway ("Secure Gateway")
The preferred method to encrypt traffic over the older csu wireless (network) is using the Secure Gateway. Users can connect from any web browser at http://secure.colostate.edu. Login and password information is protected and once connected web traffic is encrypted across the network. Instructions for using the Secure Gateway can be found here http://www.acns.colostate.edu/?page=shg_ssl_vpn. Or just click here to connect now http://secure.colostate.edu.
VPN
The Cisco vpn will not support Windows Vista 64 bit clients and is no longer the recommended option for campus use. Due to known vulnerabilities with older Cisco clients, users need to update to newer versions. Instructions for upgrading or connecting with the Cisco vpn can be found here http://www.acns.colostate.edu/?page=vpn_download. Connections will be limited to a 1 hour idle-timeout or an 8 hour maximum connect time.
