Installing Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) on a Microsoft Windows computer
Installing Symantec AntiVirus may require that your computer be restarted when done.
- Uninstall all other AntiVirus software and restart. To uninstall your current antivirus software:
- Click 'Start' and go to 'Programs' and then to your current AntiVirus software folder and click 'Uninstall'
- If you do not see an Uninstall option here, then do the following:
- Go to Start|Settings|Control Panel. Double Click Add/Remove Programs.
- Select your current antivirus software. Choose the remove option.
- Restart your computer.
- If you want to get current virus updates, immediately get connected to the Internet before you continue installation.
- With Windows running, insert the CSU PPP CD into your drive. After a few moments, a window should appear entitled 'PPP and NAV'. If you see this window skip to step 5.
- If the startup window does not appear, click 'My Computer', then your CD-ROM drive, then 'Setup.exe'.
- Feel free to browse through the 'Instructions' and 'About this CD' sections, and when you are ready to install, click 'Install NAV'.
- Select your operating system to begin the installation. For Windows ME, use the 95/98 install.
- You will see a window titled 'Welcome to Symantec AntiVirus...'. Click the 'Next' button and choose the 'Default Installation'.
- If you are prompted to enable scan of network drives, uncheck the option and click 'Next'.
- If you are prompted to select Managed or Unmanaged mode, select 'Unmanaged' and click 'Next'.
- Check the option for 'LiveUpdate'. This updates the virus definition files.
- Use the 'Internet' option to get connected to the LiveUpdate Server.
