Installing Symantec AntiVirus (SAV) on a Microsoft Windows computer

Installing Symantec AntiVirus may require that your computer be restarted when done.

  1. Uninstall all other AntiVirus software and restart. To uninstall your current antivirus software:
    1. Click 'Start' and go to 'Programs' and then to your current AntiVirus software folder and click 'Uninstall'
    2. If you do not see an Uninstall option here, then do the following:
      1. Go to Start|Settings|Control Panel. Double Click Add/Remove Programs.
      2. Select your current antivirus software. Choose the remove option.
    3. Restart your computer.
  2. If you want to get current virus updates, immediately get connected to the Internet before you continue installation.
  3. With Windows running, insert the CSU PPP CD into your drive. After a few moments, a window should appear entitled 'PPP and NAV'. If you see this window skip to step 5.
  4. If the startup window does not appear, click 'My Computer', then your CD-ROM drive, then 'Setup.exe'.
  5. Feel free to browse through the 'Instructions' and 'About this CD' sections, and when you are ready to install, click 'Install NAV'.
  6. Select your operating system to begin the installation. For Windows ME, use the 95/98 install.
  7. You will see a window titled 'Welcome to Symantec AntiVirus...'. Click the 'Next' button and choose the 'Default Installation'.
