Email Account Quotas

Accounts on ACNS's central servers (lamar) observe two separate quotas. The first, an inbox quota, governs the amount of file storage space a single account can use to store email messages in that account's inbox. The second, a home folder quota, governs the amount of file storage space a single account can use to store files in that account's home folder, which includes email messages other than those in the inbox (e.g. sent messages). The quotas in effect on ACNS's central servers are listed in the table below.

Soft Limit

If a user reaches his/her soft limit, the grace period will start in which that user will have a period of time to bring the account's file storage space under the soft limit. At the end of the grace period, that user will not be able to receive any additional email (for the inbox quota) and/or will not be able to store any additional data in his/her home folder (for the home folder quota). Incoming mail will be returned to the sender.

Hard Limit

Much like the soft limit at the end of the grace period, if a user reaches his/her hard limit, that user will immediately not be able to receive any additional email (for the inbox quota) and/or will not be able to store any additional data in his/her home folder (for the home folder quota). Incoming mail will be returned to the sender.
