All Colorado State University students, faculty, staff, and associates are given a free email account when they create an eID on the eID website.

Office 365:

Email accounts in Office365 are provided to all CSU Students, Faculty, Staff, and Associates.

Undergraduates who were previously given a Google Apps (@rams) account can make the switch to Office365 if they want, and/or they can keep their Google Apps accounts for as long as they remain with the university. More information can be found on the Google Apps page.

Google Apps for CSU:

All Students, Faculty, and Staff can create a Google Apps @Rams account in addition to their main university email account, or can stay with Google Apps for as long as they are with the university.

Alumni are automatically enrolled for an @alumni email address. More information can be found on the alumni website.

Email Alias:

Your email alias is created at the same time as your email, formatted using your first name and last name: First.Last@colostate.edu

An email alias can be set up to automatically forward mail sent to the email account specified with your eID (ename@colostate.edu or ename@rams.colostate.edu). Change your First.Last email alias on the eID website.

To make a change to an existing account (e.g. transfer ownership, change servers, etc.) please contact the IT Help Desk and describe the change you’d like to have made.

Associate Accounts:

Individuals other than students, faculty, and staff that are associated with the University in a temporary capacity (e.g. visiting scholars, guests, etc.) may obtain an email account by having a sponsor request an eID for them. Visit the eID site for more information.

Secondary Accounts:

Secondary accounts may be requested by contacting the IT Help Desk, and indicating the nature of your request. Please include the following information:

  • Your primary eName (eID)
  • Your email address
  • An eName for the secondary account that you are requesting
    (up to 8 characters; lowercase letters and numbers only; must start with a letter)
  • Whether your primary account should remain open or be closed
  • The account purpose and intended user(s)

External Sender Message Added to Email

Email received by Microsoft 365 from external senders (i.e. email from servers and domains not associated with CSU) will be stamped with the following message at the top of the email:

** Caution: EXTERNAL Sender **

This will help people identify messages that are coming from external senders, even when the display name/friendly name seen in Outlook or a mobile client resembles that of a CSU user.

Applicable to all email but especially that from external senders, do not click on links or open attachments unless you recognize the sender and know the content is safe.

An example of the message prepended to external email is shown below:
