Staff from CU Research Computing, home of Summit, will be at CSU on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. We will be holding office hours and providing two tutorials on super-computing skills in the Anatomy-Zoology building. Here is the schedule:

10 am – 1130 am: office hours/consults

Location: Colorado State University, Anatomy-Zoology E204, 1350 Centre Ave., Fort Collins, CO

1:30 pm – 3 pm: Intro to Linux

Location: Colorado State University, Anatomy-Zoology E204, 1350 Centre Ave., Fort Collins, CO

Please register here: https://wsnet2.colostate.edu/cwis6/events/events/details?id=99

This workshop is intended for new users or existing users who want to learn or get a refresher on basic Linux commands. Topics will include logging in, navigating between directories, copying and moving files, and other such fundamentals.

  • Geared toward prospective and new Summit users and those who might need a refresher
  • If you would like to follow along with demos, have your Summit account and DUO two factor authentication set up — we will navigate your directories on Summit in the examples

3 pm – 5 pm: Intro to Job Submission

Location: Colorado State University, Anatomy-Zoology E204, 1350 Centre Ave., Fort Collins, CO

Please register here: https://wsnet2.colostate.edu/cwis6/events/events/details?id=100

This workshop is intended for users of Summit or other cluster computers who have basic Linux skills and want to learn how to submit jobs in the supercomputing environment! The Intro to Linux course will be an adequate prerequisite for this course. Topics will include exploring sample Bash job scripts, SBATCH flags, and review of the partitions (hardware) and Quality of Service (job submission) options on Summit. We will submit our first practice jobs, try an interactive job, and possibly touch on the Load Balancer tool, which allows submission of large numbers of simultaneous linear jobs.

  • If you would like to follow along with demos, have your Summit account and DUO two factor authentication set up
  • Job submissions will be done on Summit via the Slurm job handler, but course concepts are fairly translatable to other job schedulers for clusters.

We hope to see you there!

We expect visits from CU RC Staff once every month. If you would like to schedule a meeting with them during a visit, or over the web, or if you have a suggestion for a specific training/seminar topic, please email kkwinner@colostate.edu.
